holiday coming

Canada Day is coming up on Thursday of next week, July 1st, when we celebrate Canada's birthday as a nation. Canada became a nation in 1867 which would make this year the 143rd anniversary if my math is correct.

So, today on my way home from work I picked up some groceries at a Safeway across the street from my place and then went to the liquor store to by some beer which turned out to be a six-pack of Samuel Adams Boston Lager and one bottle of a special Canada Day brew from Innis and Gunn, an oak aged beer, Canadian Cask, bottled in celebration of Canada Day 2010. I'm drinking it as I write this entry. Then there is a little Scotch in a glass to wash it all down. I plan to purchase a couple of bottle of that special holiday brew tomorrow for my bf to sample when he arrives here from the east.

Anyway, the sun is back and hopefully for a while, so that being the case, I may go on a hike over the weekend, and certainly on Canada Day! I'm meeting with a Reiki practitioner over tea on Saturday afternoon, so hiking that day is out of the question but perhaps Sunday if it doesn't cloud over again. Take care, guys!!! - V

the mundane

Today has been a slow day, a day to take it easy. After a week of getting up just past 5 am, it was nice to just sleep in for a change. So, its been a day to catch my breath, have a leasurely late breakfast, read emails and then get to the laundry (three loads) which are being tackled now (its just after 5 pm). While the laundry is doing its thing, I am drinking a tall beer, "la fin du monde" , a beer brewed by Unibroue in Chambly, Quebec. Its 9 % alcohol if this interests you. My favourite beers are those from Belgium, so any beer in the Belgian-style is my kind of brew. When the laundry is done, I'll be having supper (left over soup from the day before last: chicken with rice and vegetables). The soup tastes so much better the day after or so as the flavours mingle. In the meantime, I've not heard from Brad but he's likely focused on getting here, so no news is good news. He does plan to call me but pay phones are hard to find along the highway but when he does find one and plans to call, my cell phone is one, except when its charging which I leave for late at night. When I take a shower in the morning, I will obviously miss a call but my cell phone will tell me that I've missed a call and indicate the number unless its blocked. So how has your day been? - Volker

Weather

The weather for the last few weeks has been overcast and sometimes rainy. Not usual for this time of year when it should be sunny and warm. We do get the occasional sun showing through the cloud cover but its more like a tease. Hopefully this won't be a year of blah-type weather but there is a whole summer yet to come.

Well, I spent at home mostly surfing the net viewing some of my favourite blogs. My favourite links will be updated soon. I did go out late in the afternoon to get some groceries and a six-pack of beer. Now the evening was spent surfing the net after a short nap. I am sipping on a Samuel Adams Boston lager as I write. I love trying new beers. Some of the Belgian beers are my favourites. That and a good dry white wine hit the spot, especially on a hot summer day.

I hope all is well and that you're having an awesome weekend where you are. Drop in and leave a comment! - Volker
