As I've said previously, summer's soon over here but you can start thinking about where you'll be next summer and what you'll be wearing, that is, unless you can afford to go to a warmer climate during the winter! Dreams are what life is made of. - V

Friday morning we woke up to see photos in the local papers of a sailboat washed up on Kits Beach (Kitsilano Beach), the result of the gale force winds of the previous day. There were actually three in total, two on the beach and one on the rocks. Bad news for the owner of the latter I guess! The Spanish Banks in English Bay consist of nothing but sand, so sailboats ankered in such a setting are going to have their ankers dragged hundreds of feet potentially and in this case, on to the beach. Yesterday afternoon I heard that two had been removed but is one is still there this afternoon, there may be a photo. Kits Beach is my destination this afternoon and I'll likely head west as far as Locarno Beach and perhaps further.

Once the photos from Saturday's photos shoot are uploaded from my camera and saved on disk, I'm off for the afternoon. Its sunny and warming up nicely. Have a great weekend, guys!!! - V

Thoughts of warmer weather past

If you are not used to the cold, arctic-type weather we are currently having here in the lower mainland of British Columbia, here is a scene from one of the beaches facing English Bay in Vancouver. The photo was taken in early August during the height of our summer during much warmer weather. Perhaps this will serve as a diversion if you're suffering the winter blahs!

Autumn is here and so the rain!

Autumn is here, not only on the calendar since we're now into October, but also in the air. You can feel it as well as see it! The days of spending hours at the beach soaking up the sun are fast dwindling away. The life guards have packed up their stuff since Labour Day not to return until the start of the busy season next year. It was real nice for the last few days with warm temperatures and bright blue, sunny skies but tomorrow the overcast skies and rain return. However, we'll get more and more of those rainy days as we get later into the season. We can only relish those days of sitting half naked somewhere taking in the sun. It all comes with the changing of the seasons, so enjoy each one for what each has to offer. I think I'll talk Brad into strapping on a pair of skis so we can both go skiing on Hollyburn Mountain this winter. There's an area for cross-country skiing along with the alpine (downhill) skiing areas. I've done cross-country and love the exercise it offers plus taking in the fresh air and sunshine at the same time (when its sunny during the winter). Since I don't work on weekends, they're free for all sorts of fun activities! Keep in mind, when its rainy in the valley, its snowing in the mountains. Something to look forward too!!! - Volker
