Strasbourg, France - summer 1972

I visited the city of Strasbourg in Alsace in eastern France along the German border each of the three times I returned to Europe for a visit. The first time there was in the summer of 1972 and then again in 1976 and 1987. You can probably tell why there was such a draw! The German name for the city is "Strassburg" which got its name from the intersecting roads in the region ("Strasse" means road in German).
Here's a view of a tour boat on the Ill River. I took such a tour but the commentary was all in French. I missed the ones in English or German. Below is a view of part of the cathedral in the old town.
The old town has a number of scenic canals as you can see above and below. Check out my photo blog for more images but do enjoy these in the interim! - V

I've just been through your last posts and found all so amazing. What a lucky young man you were to spend 7 weeks in Europe in 1972. I guess you were also mostly on your own, if I'm not mistaken!

The pictures are still of very good quality. Did you scan them from slides or printed photos? Eitherway, did you need to tweak them with some software (like Photoshop, etc.) to make them "better"?

Thanks for this great photo album.
Hugs

You are right about being alone on that trip, though there were times that it would have been great to share the experience with my younger brother Norbert.

I went over again in 1976 for 2 months but for that trip I had a movie camera with me. I am planning to have the film taken that year saved on disk, so that I can share it with others. The 1976 film includes shots in London, England, including the changing of the guard, the Black Forest, the Baden countryside in southwestern Germany, etc.

When I went over the third time in 1987, I was using a film camera again, a 35mm Voigtlaender SLR with a wide-angle lens and a telephoto lens as well.

The 1972 images were scanned from slide film. Since the quality was very good, I made no changes. One of the films was damaged in the lab in Germany after processing. Some of those images might see improvements if using Photoshop. I plan to do that at a later time.

You're welcome! I'll have more images for others to see very soon. - V

Thanks, Patric! The images would have been even better with some blue sky and sun. As it was, the skies were overcast in many cases. A brighter sky brings out the colours, and they were lovely! - V
